Beauty and the Beast and May 1st

I went to the cinema tonight to watch Beauty and the Beast. My niece recommended it! 🙂 It was good! I liked the songs. It was a bit scary at times, but still good. I might get in on DVD when it comes out.

Yesterday was May 1st, which is celebrated in Finland with balloons, parades etc. The market square was jam packed with people… Usually the market square is empty except for a few sellers and a few customers or other people walking across it. But a couple of times a year it is filled with people and hard to move around. People bump into you all the time.

There are different parades, old cars and people walking. On the square they sell ice cream (which they do the whole summer), licorice, thin pancakes, grilled sausages, balloons, toys etc. There is also music. As usual I went to the town hall and listened to a male choir singing. Here is a picture of them standing on the balcony, singing:

Across the street from the town hall is the church. Lots of people listening to the choir:

This shows only a small portion of the people. The white hats are given (well, you have to buy them yourself…) to high school graduates. But these days other schools can have similar white hats with tassels, so they are not exclusive for high school graduates anymore. The white hats can turn slightly yellow after some decades.

My hat is still white:

The thing that is attached on the black rim is golden and must be bought separately from a store that sells earrings, necklaces etc.

In the afternoon we went to my sister-in-law. I took a few pictures of the dogs that had much fun rolling around in the dry grass… (Click on the images to enlarge them)

The black one is already 9 years old (he will be 10 in June) and the dog in the third picture has just turned 13.

Finally a picture of two small flowers that I found in my sister-in-law’s garden:

Actually there were three flowers, I think, but I only got two of them in a picture. I don’t know what they are called, but they are a sign of spring. 🙂

Got my glasses yesterday!

I have had a pretty bad cold several days (almost all the week). But I was called to come and work on Monday and Thursday. So I did that.

I missed the last Italian lesson… Oh well. I have the school book, so I can read it myself.

Yesterday after work I went to pick up my glasses and sunglasses. 🙂 I have not had a chance to try my sunglasses yet, because there is no sun… Right now lots of snow comes down from the sky! The winter came back!

I’ll bake some muffins after dinner and tonight I will watch a movie that I have borrowed from the library.

Movie night

I went to the cinema tonight to watch La La Land. I had not watched the trailer before. The only things I knew about the movie were whatever they said or showed on the Academy Awards, which I watched live between 3.30 am and 7 am.

It got six Oscars, and I am sure it deserves it. But honestly, it was boring at times. And the story itself was a bit weird with the woman thinking how her life would have been if she had stayed with the musician.

Sure, the dancing and most songs were really good and the movie was made in a good way. 🙂 But I don’t think I will get in on DVD. May be when the DVDs are lowered to cost 5-10 euros, but not as soon as it comes out. It’s a good movie, but for me it was just a good movie. I have seen many more movies that I enjoyed much more. And where I didn’t yawn…

Lots of wet snow when I walked home from the cinema.

Movie night

So, today I went to the cinema and watched Swiss Army Man. You know, the farting corpse movie… 😀

I don’t read reviews, because I want to go to the cinema not expecting anything. I knew of course what was going on in the movie, because I had watched/read interviews with Radcliffe.

Anyway, I did like the movie. It was funny and the two guys were cute together. Both Radcliffe and Dano were really good. I enjoyed the movie. Go see it in a cinema near you if you haven’t already done it! 🙂

I was laughing at some scenes or something that Manny (Radcliffe) and Hank (Dano) said. And it takes a lot before I actually laugh. So that is saying something.

Will get the DVD when it comes out. Now, if Street Cat Bob would come to the cinema too, that would be awesome… But still nothing about the movie on the cinema’s website, so I doubt it’s coming. I just have to wait for that DVD too to come.

Theater last night

Last night I went to the Finnish theater in town and watched a play called “Niin kuin taivaassa”. In Swedish it is called “SÃ¥ som i himmelen” and in English it’s called “As it is in heaven”.

The play is based on a movie by Kay Pollak. Here is the Wikipedia site about the movie in English, where you can read about the plot.

As It Is in Heaven (movie)

The play was really good. I haven’t seen the movie. If I find it somewhere, I will watch it. But I don’t think they have the movie at the library. I am not sure about the movie rental shop. I must see if I can find it.

Inferno and pizza

Today is the premiere (at least Finnish premiere) of Dan Brown’s Inferno. 🙂 So I went to the cinema to watch it. There was three showings today: 3.30 pm, 6.30 pm and 10.55 pm I think. I decided to go to the first one.

There were me and six (6) others watching, so a total of seven people! Well, it’s better than the time I was alone in the cinema I guess…. :/

The local newspaper wrote a bad review. According to him the movie was c–p. But I thought it was fine. Thrilling. And I love to see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon.

When I first saw that Inferno was coming to the cinema, I check the Internet, because I thought I had completely missed the third movie… Well, they never made The Lost Symbol, because they thought it was so close in theme to National Treasure. 😦 I would have liked to see that book as a movie. The Lost Symbol, I mean.

Anyway, after the cinema I was hungry, so I went to the shopping mall and got a pizza. The movie is partly in Venice and Florence (Italy), so an Italian dish made sense. 😉

Just got home. Mum has gone to my sister’s family for a visit. I’ll continue stitching the blanket. I don’t have much left. I might finish it tomorrow or on Sunday. But I am thinking of making a small border too, so that might take a few days. The blanket is rather big.

Classes

I have just watched Eddie the Eagle on DVD. I really love that movie and I hope I will find it in a store so I can watch it over and over again. Sadly the store where I got my DVDs have filed for bankruptcy and the stores are closing down, as I have written before.

No rain today. 🙂 Just some dark clouds, that didn’t produce any rain. And the clouds moved away later in the day.

There’s a place where adults can take classes in lots of different subjects during the year. Each year they give out a catalogue with lots of different classes that they offer. There’s one school in Swedish and one school in Finnish. I have been looking through the catalogue and I found a couple of classes to take this year. Well, they both continue into the spring as well.

One class I will take is about beading, beadwork, whatever you want to call it. Making bracelets, necklaces and other things will small beads. That’s gonna be fun! 😀 I have made bracelets etc in the past, and quite recently, but I will be doing a lot of beading this autumn/winter/spring. Can’t wait to try some of the things I’ve found on Pinterest! The beading class starts September 23rd and will have classes every second Friday.

The second class I am also exited about, of course. Otherwise I wouldn’t take it. It’s Italian for beginners! 😀 The teacher is an Italian and the class will be in Italian/English. I know a few words of Italian but I want to learn more, and I want to learn how to make sentences. Italian is a beautiful language! 🙂 The class starts September 6th and will be every Tuesday.

They also have this thing called a knitting café, where you can take your knitting/crocheting project and work on it while drinking coffee etc. You can go once or every week, or just a few times. I will go September 5th and see how it is. If I like it, I’ll go several times.

Well, I am happy the Olympics are over soon! I have been waking up in the middle of the night several times recently to watch some of the events. This night will be the last event I want to see, the javelin for men. Just one Finn competing in the final, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for him. The Olympics have been kind of a fiasco for Finland. Only one bronze medal so far. If Antti Ruuskanen succeeds there might be another medal coming tonight, but I doubt it. I guess I’ll watch the ending ceremony as well. That’s one more night of watching TV…

I do have something to keep me occupied so I don’t fall asleep, though. I am crocheting African Flowers! 😀 I am going to make a blanket using 257 of them! Just started a couple of days ago and have 9 flowers I think. Today I went through my yarns and picked out four color combinations. I’ll show a picture of them tomorrow.

I’d better go to bed now and have the alarm clock waking me up a little before 3 am…

Buena Notte! 😉
