Update on the cat

Just a little update on how it’s going with the kitten in the house. πŸ™‚

She has a ton of energy! But then she can also sleep for hours at a time, when the energy is gone and she needs to recharge the batteries.

You never know what she will do… Here is a funny picture of her inside the washing machine!

IMG_1166.jpg

She had climbed up on some wet clothes hanging to dry next to the machine, and then jumped down when the lid was opened. I do have it closed now, but I think the washing machine might start smelling at some point if you leave the lid closed all the time and it’s moist inside the machine.

Here she is on a little piece of furniture in the living room. She is not allowed to be there, because she can knock down the plants (which we moved there because she knocked down the plants when they were elsewhere in the house). But she kindly sat there, so I took a picture of her before moving her to the floor. She sits next to a framed picture of my cat Niki who sadly passed away in March (in case you didn’t know).

She has grown quite a lot. You don’t notice it so much when you see her every day, until you look at the first pictures of when she arrived here.

When I am sitting by the desk in the living room, doing things on the computer, she sometimes likes to lay down and sleep, between my chest and my arm. When she does that I cannot do much writing on the keyboard, so I usually watch something on YouTube while she sleeps on my arm.

She gave a big yawn at one point when I was taking pictures of her! πŸ˜€

Here she has put her toy (a star with a bouncy ball inside), in the drinking water! She likes to move her toys to her food cups (luckily she doesn’t put them in the food!) or the kitty litter box.

She is funny and I do love her. But sometimes, when she has too much energy, she can get on my nerves a bit! And you have to be careful what she does, so she doesn’t break stuff or burn her paws on the stove. Because she likes to jump from the kitchen table to the sink and then walk over to the stove. No, she is not supposed to do that. But you need only turn your head around for a few seconds, and there she is…

I find it very hard to do creative things with her in the house… :/ If I want to make a jigsaw puzzle, she is all over the place, trying to chase the pieces. I wanted to knit some socks, but that was impossible since she immediately starting going after the yarn, trying to bite it. Same with the cross stitching. She jumps on the paper with the pattern and she grabs at the thread with her paws. I close the door to my room but she is soon there, meowing and begging to come in (unless she is sleeping). So I usually have to wait to do creative things until she is sleeping. πŸ™‚

Also she likes to be close to you. At the moment I am alone with her, because mum will be in Sweden for several weeks. I was working three days this week and when I came home she would come running up to me and start purring. She likes to purr a lot.

Finally here is a picture from a few hours ago. She lay on my chest, with her head up against my chin, and she purred a lot then too. Her whiskers tickled my face! πŸ˜€

I was very hungry, but I decided to wait until she wanted to move away from me, until I went to the kitchen to prepare some food.

I know she will calm down when she get older. It’s a phase she is going through. Kittens are full of life, curious and energetic. πŸ™‚ And they are the best animals in the world, according to me. Nothing better than coming home from work and finding a purring cat that comes running against you, welcoming you home.

Little Miss Nelson

I now have a little kitten full of energy in the house! πŸ˜€ But she can also sleep for hours at a time, to recharge her batteries.

We got to visit her for the first time at week 4, by the time she looked like this:

Miss Nelson is her official name, but I almost always call her Nelson. In the beginning, when she was born, the owner said it was a male kitten. It wasn’t until the 6th week that we found out she is a female. πŸ™‚ We wished for a male, but we still wanted to take the cutie, despite her being female. And I didn’t want to change the name. For me it is and will always be Nelson. Some may say Miss Nelson, others may call her Nellie or Nelly if they wish.

This is how relaxed she was during the 30 minutes drive to her new home:

IMG_0941Especially the first part of the road was very bumpy, but she quickly settled down and took a little nap in the transport box.

We arrived home around 10 pm on Monday evening. We didn’t get much sleep the first night, but the transition to a new life has gone very smoothly. She knows where the kitty litter is and how to use it. She likes playing with certain toys, especially those hanging in elastic bands from sticks. πŸ™‚

She is very cuddly, when she is in that mood. Last night she spent hours very close to my head, purring. She purrs other times as well, especially if she wants to relax after an episode of chasing toys around the house.

Before she arrived I made a little blanket for her. It’s just a fleece blanket with small black paw prints. I keep it mostly in a box. Nelson has slept there once so far.

In the autumn or winter I might put it on the sofa or the bed.

It’s fun watching her progression and play with her. She doesn’t mind the water and likes to play with a little water in the sink.

She ate a cooked fish yesterday and she will probably get the rest of the fish later today.

She likes to investigate her new home and often finds weird places to sleep in, like this shelf where she slept on top of small plush toys:

Finally here a picture of her sleeping on my bed. First she was chasing my hand under the bed sheet and all of a sudden she decided to charge her batteries, like this:

IMG_0982Isn’t she cute! πŸ˜€

I hope she will have a long happy life here. I’m sure she will give me lots of moments of happiness and laughter. πŸ™‚

Glasses, F1 etc.

Last Friday I went to check my sight. At the same time I chose new glasses. πŸ™‚ They will come in about two weeks, so at the end of the month. But they might come sooner too. I will get a text message when I can go and pick them up.

It will be interesting, because I don’t really remember what they look like! πŸ˜€ They had an offer of two glasses for one, so I also chose sun glasses. It’s the first time I will wear sun glasses. The lenses are thicker, so I can use them without the regular glasses. That has always been an issue for me. I can’t use those cheap sun glasses you find in many stores and flea markets. They need to come with thicker lenses so I can see. Of course I had to pay for the lenses of the sun glasses, but the frame was free.

For the first time I had them take pictures of the back of the eyes. I don’t know what it is called in English. But they have a machine that can take pictures of the bottom of the eye, the part that you can’t see. Those pictures turned out to be okay, so they didn’t find anything unusual in those pictures, which is nice to know. Apparently you should take those pictures every second or third year.

I still miss Niki. The house feels so empty without a cat. 😦 It’s the small things you miss the most. Like making whipped cream… Niki always wanted to lick some of the cream. Now I don’t have anyone who licks the whipped cream. I even miss him waking me up during the night, scratching his paws on my door.

I really, really want to have a little kitten! But I have not found anything yet. On Saturdays the local newspaper has ads where people want to sell/buy etc. Sometimes they announce that they have kittens, but not yet. An other free magazine comes out on Wednesdays and they have similar ads, but sadly no kittens there either.

I even have a name for the kitten. πŸ™‚ I just need to find him. There will be kittens born in May. A man has offered us one of the kittens born in May. But May is so far away. It’s only March. And God knows how long the kittens have to stay with their mother. Several weeks. It means I would not get it home until June or July… 😦 So please, God, let me found a kitten in the newspaper ads long before that!

Oh, well… there is nothing to do but to wait. To try and make the days go faster. Sunday really dragged itself through mud. Sunday felt very long.

This weekend the F1 season starts in Australia. πŸ™‚ Looking forward to that. Kimi Raikkonen drives for Ferrari and Valtteri Bottas has moved to Mercedes. It will be interesting to see both drivers.

Cat toy

Cat toy

This tape measure is the funniest toy in the world, according to Niki! πŸ˜€ The 13-year old turns to a 1 year old kitten again when he can chase the tape measure. πŸ™‚

I tried to do some school stuff this weekend, but I kind of gave up. I mean, it’s so frustrating when we should use programs that doesn’t work on a Macintosh. 😦 Luckily two of the programs we only used when we were in Turku and they didn’t turn up in the exam. So I don’t think I need those programs again. One program I was able to download for Macintosh and it works okay. But it doesn’t really want to do what I want it to do…

But I have a deadline on Tuesday so I have two more days to fight with the program. πŸ˜‰

Once again Kimi did a pretty strong race, finished 5th after yet another bad qualifying. Grosjean was the better Lotus driver this weekend.

I got pretty angry when they started to talk about drivers moving from one team to the other; in the pre race program. It’s not only Kimi that has been affected. The same happened to Hamilton, Mika Salo (ex Finnish driver) and I am pretty sure it happens to all drivers who announce that they will switch teams after the season. Kimi said that from one day to the next, the attitudes of some of the team change pretty much. He doesn’t get all the information he may be would need, they exclude him (and other drivers of course) from certain meetings. In short, they treat them like traitors. Of course I understand that they can’t talk to Kimi about next year’s car, because Kimi will be “an enemy” next year. But there is still four more races this year. Are they going to shift all attention to Grosjean and leave Kimi to mind his own business? They should split the attention 50-50 between Kimi and Grosjean and be happy for the time they still have with Kimi. But instead a lot of the team stop talking to him! 😦

It has been a strong wind today but pretty sunny. Only went to the grocery store across the street today, so I haven’t been out much.

I noticed mum took the camera to Sweden, but we of course have the old camera, which is not as good. But it does take pictures, most of the time.

I am waiting for a package to come in the mail. Hope it comes tomorrow! But it might come on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Nothing interesting on TV anymore. But that’s when YouTube comes into the picture. πŸ˜‰ You can always find good stuff on YT! I’ll watch an episode of something on YT before I go to bed.

Blister

Soon I’m going to sleep – in my own bed! πŸ˜€ Nice! The last two nights I’ve been sleeping on a mattress on a couch. Not the most comfortable, but not too bad either.

I got a sore toe. 😦 There is a blister under the toe, because I had to walk a pretty long way with my rain boots. Ouch!

There was a pretty heavy thunderstorm yesterday! πŸ™‚ Thunders, lightnings, heavy rain, hail (bigger than peas)… The smaller of the dogs that I was with, was literally shaking his whole body. He was really scared! 😦 I sat next to him on the couch, holding him. After a while he ran away. Found him later in the bathroom, where he stayed a couple of hours.

Today was much better weather. Pretty sunny and warm. I had to stay at the house until 3.30 pm. Then the whole family drove me home.

Yesterday I visited a cute little kitten! Lucifer is his name, yellow, 12 weeks, quite a lot of energy! πŸ˜€

Did some reading while away. Started reading The Cuckoo’s Calling (by Robert Galbraith, AKA J.K. Rowling). Not sure I spelled that last name correct. Not Rowling, the other one.

Cross stitched quite a bit. A little picture of a raccoon. Just a little bit of back stitching left. πŸ™‚

My bike does have a punctured tyre… 😦 Well, I decided to let it be for a while. Next week that man from Sweden is coming and he might be able to fix it. In the meantime I can use grand mum’s old bike.

It’s getting late. Better go get some sleep now.
