Beauty and the Beast and May 1st

I went to the cinema tonight to watch Beauty and the Beast. My niece recommended it! πŸ™‚ It was good! I liked the songs. It was a bit scary at times, but still good. I might get in on DVD when it comes out.

Yesterday was May 1st, which is celebrated in Finland with balloons, parades etc. The market square was jam packed with people… Usually the market square is empty except for a few sellers and a few customers or other people walking across it. But a couple of times a year it is filled with people and hard to move around. People bump into you all the time.

There are different parades, old cars and people walking. On the square they sell ice cream (which they do the whole summer), licorice, thin pancakes, grilled sausages, balloons, toys etc. There is also music. As usual I went to the town hall and listened to a male choir singing. Here is a picture of them standing on the balcony, singing:

Across the street from the town hall is the church. Lots of people listening to the choir:

This shows only a small portion of the people. The white hats are given (well, you have to buy them yourself…) to high school graduates. But these days other schools can have similar white hats with tassels, so they are not exclusive for high school graduates anymore. The white hats can turn slightly yellow after some decades.

My hat is still white:

The thing that is attached on the black rim is golden and must be bought separately from a store that sells earrings, necklaces etc.

In the afternoon we went to my sister-in-law. I took a few pictures of the dogs that had much fun rolling around in the dry grass… (Click on the images to enlarge them)

The black one is already 9 years old (he will be 10 in June) and the dog in the third picture has just turned 13.

Finally a picture of two small flowers that I found in my sister-in-law’s garden:

Actually there were three flowers, I think, but I only got two of them in a picture. I don’t know what they are called, but they are a sign of spring. πŸ™‚

So fun to watch Heikki Kovalainen in the Lotus car this weekend! πŸ˜€ He is doing a great job! It is not easy to jump into a team and perform so well with such a short notice. He got the call to come to Lotus on Tuesday night and he has had to learn a lot of new things in just a few days. πŸ™‚ P8 tomorrow on the starting grid. And Valtteri Bottas P9! πŸ˜€ But I think Bottas will fall down to P11 – P14 in the GP. It’s one thing to be strong in the qualifying, a different thing to be strong in the race. And I don’t think Williams has the car yet to get some points. They only have Maldonado’s one point so far. Looking forward to the race tomorrow! πŸ™‚ Red Bull is of course in a different league… And it’s not difficult to guess who’s gonna win tomorrow.

Finished a cross stitched bookmark while I watched the qualifying. πŸ™‚ The bookmark shows three sheep and there’s some butterflies and pink flowers as well. Pretty cute. πŸ™‚

Finished reading Pure, by Julianna Baggott. Very good book! Also started on the second book in the trilogy, Fuse. I hope it is just as good.

The wind is pretty strong right now. But apparently it’s getting worse. Around 6 am to 8 am it’s supposed to be the strongest winds in this area, then it will move somewhere else. The electric company has warned that the electricity might be cut off. But usually things doesn’t turn out as bad as it has been predicted in the newspapers and tabloids. But, we’ll see.

Almost midnight. The cat is snoring on my couch. He really likes the blanket that I put there, so he can rest his head on it. πŸ˜€

Paper cranes

Finally I am done with all dishes. πŸ™‚ My finger tips are like raisins. πŸ˜‰

I have now a total of 500 paper cranes! Halfway! πŸ˜€ I guess I’ll make a few more while watching Swedish Hollywood wives later tonight.

I invited my niece to come for a visit some day this week. We shall see when she is coming. She has autumn holiday from school on Thursday and Friday, but then she had some plans for the early afternoon.Β

It’s very dark outside… It will be lighter when the snow comes.Β

It’s very dark in the bathroom too. 😦 The fluorescent lamp tube no longer works. I have to have a flashlight on the sink when I’m in there. But I can’t buy a new one, because there are so many different kinds in the stores around town. And even if I found the right one, I would not be able to change them.Β

Soon 8 pm. The Hollywood wives come at 10 pm. So still a couple of hours to wait.Β

On my birthday (September 25) grand mum gave me a bouquet of small pink carnations. They have long been very beautiful and it wasn’t until today, three weeks later, that I had to throw them away.Β

The wedding

So, I watched the wedding basically from 4 pm to 8 pm. Then I watched the qualifying, but kept looking at the wedding while nothing interesting happened in Montreal.

The dress was gorgeous! Fantastic! πŸ˜€ And the entrance was fantastic too, with the children singing. Her flowers… Well, I would have thrown in a few brightly colored flowers in there. I mean, it was beautiful, but nothing extraordinary. A little pink or purple would have been fine too.Β

Cute little princess Estelle was adorable! πŸ™‚ She even got her own chair, which was basically a mini-version of the other chairs! πŸ˜€ But of course, a 1-year old don’t want to kindly sit still in a chair for an hour. She mostly sat in her parents’ laps. Once, when Victoria talked in front of the bride and groom, Estelle escaped and walked towards her mum. Dad grabbed her and mum laughed.

The groom, Chris, was quite emotional. Several times he had to fight against the tears. 😦 At the same time the bride, Madeleine, was cool as a cucumber. Not much emotions, except happiness.

Great that they had the folk music in the end of the ceremony when they walked out. And so cute that Daniel taught Estelle how to send blow kisses when the bride and the groom reentered the palace, after having been outside to greet the tourists and everyone else waiting outside the palace.

Ok, the qualifying… Damn it! Vettel once again on pole position, Kimi far behind on P 11. 😦 Kimi got a penalty and dropped two positions back from 9th, which he was after the qualifying. Valtteri Bottas P 3… That was a HUGE surprise! πŸ˜€ But I don’t think he can keep his third place in the race.

I hope there will be sun and high temperatures at least. That can save Kimi, but he will have a long, difficult race… If it’s cold and rainy, Kimi might get a few points.

Kimi’s team mate Grosjean… Come on! 18th in the qualifying, but got the penalty from the Monaco crash, so he will start from P 22… Last man on the grid. Honestly, how much longer is Lotus going to keep supporting him?Β
