Beauty and the Beast and May 1st

I went to the cinema tonight to watch Beauty and the Beast. My niece recommended it! 🙂 It was good! I liked the songs. It was a bit scary at times, but still good. I might get in on DVD when it comes out.

Yesterday was May 1st, which is celebrated in Finland with balloons, parades etc. The market square was jam packed with people… Usually the market square is empty except for a few sellers and a few customers or other people walking across it. But a couple of times a year it is filled with people and hard to move around. People bump into you all the time.

There are different parades, old cars and people walking. On the square they sell ice cream (which they do the whole summer), licorice, thin pancakes, grilled sausages, balloons, toys etc. There is also music. As usual I went to the town hall and listened to a male choir singing. Here is a picture of them standing on the balcony, singing:

Across the street from the town hall is the church. Lots of people listening to the choir:

This shows only a small portion of the people. The white hats are given (well, you have to buy them yourself…) to high school graduates. But these days other schools can have similar white hats with tassels, so they are not exclusive for high school graduates anymore. The white hats can turn slightly yellow after some decades.

My hat is still white:

The thing that is attached on the black rim is golden and must be bought separately from a store that sells earrings, necklaces etc.

In the afternoon we went to my sister-in-law. I took a few pictures of the dogs that had much fun rolling around in the dry grass… (Click on the images to enlarge them)

The black one is already 9 years old (he will be 10 in June) and the dog in the third picture has just turned 13.

Finally a picture of two small flowers that I found in my sister-in-law’s garden:

Actually there were three flowers, I think, but I only got two of them in a picture. I don’t know what they are called, but they are a sign of spring. 🙂

Looking after the dogs

I have been looking after my brother’s dogs this weekend. I still am. I will go there in the afternoon (may be around four or five pm). But I don’t know if I will watch the F1 Gp there or here at home.

I spent the last night at their house, but I don’t have to spend this night at their house, because my brother and his wife are coming home during the night. But if I watch the F1 GP there, I will have to go home with the bicycle late at night, may be 10.30 pm. It takes a while to go with the bike and I should take the dogs out too after the race. If I watch the race at home, it would have to go out with the dogs around 7 pm and that might be too long for them to wait until the owners come home. Well, I guess I will have to watch the race in their house, but I really don’t like the idea of driving a bicycle home that late at night… 😦

My nephew came here on Friday evening and he’ll go home on Monday when my brother comes and get him. But first he will need to sleep as he will drive the car up to Vasa from Helsinki during the night.

Nothing much else going on. My nephew Rasmus turned 14 yesterday, so mum and Alec went there for a birthday party. I had to go to the dogs instead.

It’s been pretty cold, only a few plus degrees. I think they are expecting snow next week. 🙂

Two dogs and one cat

Last weekend (Friday-Saturday) I took care of my sister’s dog. This weekend (Friday-Sunday) I am taking care of my brother’s dogs. And I still have my old cat to take care of too. 😉

I have to go back and forth with the bicycle. Now I’m at home. I am going to eat dinner now. I’ll go back to the dogs around 8 pm and stay there over the night. I spent last night there too. Good my brother’s family is coming home tomorrow. But I will have to go there tomorrow too once, after I have come home to the cat in the morning.

I don’t like to leave the cat alone during night. He is not used to it. Now it has to be alone two nights in a row. 😦 But he seemed to be fine this morning. I guess he slept all night and didn’t notice that no one was home.

Sadly Kimi Raikkonen was only 14th in the qualifying. 😦 Bad timing. The team should have let him out later, as the track was getting better every second in the end. I also think there were some yellow flags that messed things up. Hopefully lots of things will happen tomorrow, so Kimi can get some decent points.

A warm day. I think they have promised high temperature  several days now. We’ll see about that. They are not always right.

A while ago I bought a footstool from Lidl. It was like an IKEA package, you had to assemble it yourself. But it was easy to do that. All you needed were in the package and it took only a few minutes to assemble it. Now I have painted it blue, an acrylic color called “lagoon”. It’s on the balcony.

Can’t show a picture of it. Mum has the camera in Sweden and will come home on July 31st. I took a picture of the footstool with the mobile phone, but I need a short cable to move the picture from the phone to the computer. Sadly mum took the little cable too… So I can’t upload anything. I will show a picture in August…

Better go eat the dinner now before it cools down too much…

Fireworks

There are a lot of small explosions going on around town tonight when it is the end of the summer cottage season… 😦 They are allowed to have fireworks and similar small explosives from 6 pm to 2 am. The fireworks will probably start when it gets dark so you can see them in the sky.

The animals don’t like the fireworks. 😦 My brother’s dogs are scared, my sister’s dog is probably scared too and my cat don’t like them either, especially not later when there are more of them.

I just came home from my sister’s house. I went there with mum and later my sister-in-law and nephew came. My brother is working on the ship again. No one from my sister’s family were home though… They are at a summer cottage with some friends. They could not take the dog Albin with them, so mum is going to sleep in the house tonight, with Albin as company. 😉 I hope Albin wants to go out tonight. May be mum has to go a shorter distance with him, because of the fireworks, or then she goes earlier, when there is not so much explosions around.

I am happy to be home with the cat.

Once again Usain Bolt got three gold medals from the world championships. 😀 How boring it will be when he retires after the Olympics… He has said he will retire then, but who knows? May be he continues.

Warm day

My poor cat had a rough weekend. 😦 But he is pretty much back to normal again. 🙂 I had to sleep in my brother’s house between Friday and Saturday. I went back home on Saturday morning and mum said that the cat didn’t want to eat or drink. And you could see that he wasn’t feeling well. We almost immediately knew it was because he could not do “number 2” in the litter box. Mum went to visit her mum as she does almost all the Saturdays. I was home with the cat. I got him to drink water and I went to the drug store to get some medicine that would help the cat.

I had to go back to the dogs around 1 pm, because they needed to go out for a walk. It’s not nice leaving a sick cat home alone, but I had to go… Mum came home around 3 pm so it was just a couple of hours that the cat had to be alone. But I came home again around 6 pm. Then we gave the medicine to the cat. He drank quite a lot of water (may be he had traces of the medicine in his mouth and wanted to get rid of it!) and we got him to eat a little butter as well during the day, but not much else.

In the evening the cat used the litter box to pee a little, but no number 2. Sunday morning the cat was able to do both things, but it was quite messy and it got stuck to the fur around his butt. We ended up having to wash the cat’s butt in the sink. The tail and the back legs got wet too. That was not a success! 😉 He hated it!

He didn’t eat much on Sunday either and we had to wash him in the sink twice on Sunday!

Well. Now it’s Tuesday and he is pretty much normal again. Thank God! He does both things in the litter box and he has a good apetite.

He is already 15 years old, so I guess he can die at any point now, although I hope he gets a few more years. I know cats can live to 20 years and more, but 12-15 is the time when most cats go.

Anyway, it’s a warm and sunny day. I am writing in the library now. I do have Internet at home, but I had to return some books and thought I would use on of the computers that was available.

On Sunday mum and I went to get all my stuff from the flea market. I got a decent amount of money, but not as much as last time. Still, it’s okay. And we got rid of some stuff that would just lay around the house not getting used.

I’ll go and buy some food now.

Watching the dogs

I have to go to my brother’s house tonight and sleep there. They are going somewhere today and coming home tomorrow, so I have to look after the two dogs. I am going around 8 pm I think.

I am still coughing a little, but it’s much better. Earlier in the week I had a terrible cold, with a nose that was constantly running, a very sore throat and some more coughing. I even had some pain in my ears… I can still wake up at night when I am coughing.

Just a couple more days at the flea market. On Sunday afternoon I will take home my stuff that has not been sold. I’ve been there almost every day because it’s so messy on the table. I went there today after the opened at noon, so I don’t know what has been sold today. They still have the flea market open for 25 minutes.

Pretty sunny. I hope it doesn’t start raining later tonight or tomorrow, because it’s no fun walking with the dogs in the rain or on wet muddy streets…

Better pack a little bag soon that I can take with me.

Going to make some bookmarks before I go there.

Today I got 2 postcards, yesterday I got 4! 😀

Home sweet home :)

It feels nice to be home again! 😀 I shall sleep well in my own bed tonight. I was already sleeping but woke up again when the cat wanted to get some food.

The cat has got a new fluffy bed. It looks really nice. But does the cat go there? No! He is interested in it, walks around it, but doesn’t want to sleep there. May be he needs a few days to get used to it. And if he really doesn’t like it, I am sure the little dog will love it! So we will give it to my brother then. But first we wait a week to see if the cat will get used to the new bed.

I got an early birthday gift tonight! 😀 A new phone! Don’t remember what model the previous one was but I am sure I had it for ten years or more. The new phone has a camera, and I think I can receive and send pictures too. I don’t want the phone to be too technical. I just need to be able to make/receive phone calls, send and receive text messages and use the calculator and things like that. So now I can take a photo with it too if I happen to see something interesting outside.

The phone was on sale, so mum decided to get it now. My birthday isn’t until the end of September (25th), but mum’s Swedish friend goes home on Sunday and we needed him to show how to change from the old phone to the new phone. I have the same phone number as before, so I had to open the old one and remove a tiny little SIM card (?) and put it in the new one.

Formula one in Italy this weekend! Was not able to watch the free practice sessions of course because I was working. Kimi was 7th and 3rd! I’ll watch the third practice session and the qualifying too tomorrow.

But now I need to sleep.
