Got my glasses yesterday!

I have had a pretty bad cold several days (almost all the week). But I was called to come and work on Monday and Thursday. So I did that.

I missed the last Italian lesson… Oh well. I have the school book, so I can read it myself.

Yesterday after work I went to pick up my glasses and sunglasses. πŸ™‚ I have not had a chance to try my sunglasses yet, because there is no sun… Right now lots of snow comes down from the sky! The winter came back!

I’ll bake some muffins after dinner and tonight I will watch a movie that I have borrowed from the library.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all who reads this. πŸ™‚

The cat got his gifts early this morning!

Click on the images to enlarge them.

The cat thought it was fun to play with the new toy. He also liked to attack the pile of wrapping paper! πŸ˜‰

I think it is supposed to look like a crab or crayfish or something. Anyway, an animal living in the sea. I might have to remove the black parts of the eyes, because he might chew on Β them or something when is in a very playful mood.

We will go to my sister’s house in the afternoon, around 1.30 and I guess we will be there most of the day until the evening.

Before we go, we will take a little bag with two herrings out of the freezer, so the cat can eat them as his Christmas dinner when we are gone. I think he will like that. But first they need to get soft again.

Mum is making rice porridge to take to my sister’s house. They always want to eat that after the dinner. I might taste a little bit, but I don’t really want to eat porridge after I have eaten ham and potatoes…

I have made eiskonfekt that I will bring with me. But as usually I made my own version by adding peppermint oil and crushed peppermint candies. I have also baked mint chocolate muffins, so I will take those with me as well. We will drink coffee in the evening when my brother’s family comes too.

My nephew Alec who will be six years in the beginning of January has lost two teeth! πŸ™‚ So it will be fun to see how he looks with two teeth missing!

New camera!

A company had to close all of its ware houses in the country. It went bankrupt. Sadly it was one of my favorite stores. 😦 Today they began their huge sale to get rid of as much as possible of the goods that are still in the stores.

I went there. Chaotic! Tons of people! I had to wait over an hour in line for the check out. Mum wanted me to get some big towels for when we shower. The ones we use now have been washed hundreds of times. But I always use mine, because I don’t want to use the smaller towels. In the end the towels turned out much cheaper than I expected, which was nice.

When I found the towels I went to the department where they have DVDs, cameras etc. Mum decided to give me a camera for my birthday which is in 2 months! πŸ˜€ Well, I paid the camera and the towels of course, but she will give me money for it later. The cameras were 20 % cheaper. I got a grey Canon Ixus 165. It came with a little bag to put it in and a memory card of 8 GB.

They had the cameras locked inside a cupboard. So I had to stand in the line for over an hour, as I wrote. I just kept thinking: Come on, don’t buy the camera that I want! I didn’t know how many they had in stock. So I was happy that I got the camera after all the waiting.

The battery had to charge for a couple of hours, but I got to test the camera in the afternoon. Above is just a few random pictures I took with it. The footstool that I wrote about earlier, which I bought and painted blue after putting in together. The lion is always sitting on the couch in the living room. The cat looked a bit annoyed when I wanted to take pictures of it. πŸ™‚ The orchid is by the kitchen window.

I will test it more later. There seems to be lots of different little things to do with it. I just have to find all the functions. There was a very long guide book to be downloaded on the Internet. It was complicated, and in Finnish too. I didn’t understand everything they wrote.

The apartment smells lovely now. I just baked a banana cake! πŸ˜€ It has mushed bananas in it. And it tastes lovely! I will try a piece later in the evening. Right now it’s too hot for me to touch, as I got it out of the oven a minute ago.

I am a little sad that they will release the Harry Potter book on a Sunday! 😦 My local book shop is not open on Sundays. So I have to wait until Monday morning to get Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

I don’t really know much about the book. I know it’s based on a play and set in the future when Harry is a grown up man. But how will the book be constructed? Is it going to be like a manuscript for a play or will it still be like a regular novel? And why is it called Part I and Part II on the cover? Will there be a Part III in the future? It will be interesting to see on Monday! I can’t wait! πŸ˜€

I will work tomorrow and on Friday. πŸ™‚ A librarian is ill, so I’ll work alone in the library she works in.

Lots of gingerbreads! :D

DSCN1075

Started baking gingerbreads at 7 am this morning! πŸ˜€ About an hour later the big glass jar was filled and some we had to put in the metallic box. 137 cookies this year! πŸ™‚

The dough was made yesterday, because it has to be in the refrigerator over the night.

The best part of baking gingerbreads is to eat the last little bit of dough when no more cookies can be cut out of the dough! πŸ˜€ Yummy!

I watched a movie until 1.15 am last night… So I was a little tired while baking. But I took a nap after the baking was done.

Today we will probably make the gingerbread house (we buy the parts in a box, then decorate it and glue the pieces together with icing). We might also get the tree today. I am not sure.

A “vegetable” for the cat

DSCN0263

My cat thinks this plant, the hibiscus, is a big vegetable that he can eat… Mum tries to stop him from chewing on the leaves. Usually he does it at night when we are sleeping or away from the house. We then find traces of him. There are half-eaten leaves on the hibiscus and the cactus has white fur on it. πŸ™‚

It doesn’t matter how many things we put around the hibiscus. He still finds a way to jump up and eat from the plant. Once I put grounded pepper around the pot. It helped a few days…

Today he was suddenly sitting there when I looked away from the computer. But luckily he didn’t chew on any leaves today. He just sat there for a while. πŸ™‚
We had tortillas for dinner today. I can always eat just two, then I don’t want anymore. It tasted great.

I might make the pΓ€tkis muffins in a while. Mum is going to my sister’s house. My brother’s family is coming to pick her up in a few minutes.

The schoolkids in Finland now have summer vacation until the middle of August. There were a lot of handsome people with skirts and dresses and blazers in town when I went to town.

It was pretty warm and sunny. Now there are some more clouds on the sky.

Baking

I am baking today. πŸ™‚ First I tried something new that I have never done before. I made muffins with mint chocolate. In Finland we have something called PΓ€tkis, little mint chocolate bars. They come in mini versions too in a little plastic bag and the recipe called for the mini chocolate. Each piece cut in three. So there are small pieces of PΓ€tkis in the muffins. I am sure they melted in the oven, so they are gooey and yummy! πŸ˜€ I have to taste one for dessert.

I have a pizza in the oven now. πŸ™‚ It was the first time that I made the dough myself. Usually it’s mum that makes the dough. So I am not sure how it will turn out. I think it’s a little stickier than mum’s dough, but I hope it tastes good, although the grocery store didn’t have the slices of pizza ham that we use to put on on the pizza. So I had to buy some other ham slices. We’ll see how it turns out to be in the end… I put tuna on mum’s side of the pizza and she got pizza spices too. I don’t like that. The dough is on the oven plate and we always “decorate” half the side each, so we get what we want. She usually likes tomato slices too, but I didn’t have that today. So she has to be without them.

I have to quickly wash the dishes after dinner (there are a lot now with so much baking…) In the afternoon I am going to an event. 270 people are signed up for the event, so I have to be there at 4.30 pm when they open the doors. I guess you have to stand in a queue for a long time to pay for the event and if you come pretty late you won’t get any good seat to sit in. So I am going there early… My sister-in-law is also going to the same event. May be I will see her there.

While I am at the event (from 6 to 7 pm) mum will come home from Sweden. She is on the passenger ship right now. She did see my brother on Thursday when she went, and I guess they will see each other today too. He is working until Tuesday, so he has a few more trips with the boat before he has another two weeks off. He is a restaurant manager on the ship. My sister and Alec will go to the harbor to get mumr at 6.30 and then they will come here and wait for my sister-in-law and me to come home as well.

That’s why I made the muffins. I thought they might stay for coffee.

Well, the pizza is almost done, so I better go check it out now. The cat liked to eat some of the tuna that I put on a little plate for him while I decorated the pizza. He is crazy for the pizza ham slices that we use to have, but I don’t think he will like these ham slices.

I am sure the cat will go nuts when mum comes home. He will meow and meow and meow and meow…. πŸ˜‰

F1 Spain

A few more hours until the Spanish GP. But I am not getting my hope up too much. Kimi’s had a bad weekend, he’s been grumpy and unsatisfied with all kinds of weird problems. After the qualifying he said the team had kept a set of softer tires in those tire blankets too long and the tires were destroyed, burnt. So those can’t be used in the race. He starts from P7, so he will have a difficult day on the track.

I think I will make a mud cake soon. It’s mother’s day in Finland at least. Mum is at grand mum’s home now. My sister’s family, my sister-in-law and Alec are there too. My brother is working on the passenger ship now and will not be home for over a week.

The sis’s family came unexpectedly to us last night. So they watched the last part of the ice hockey game Slovakia vs. Finland. Lucky we had some cinnamon rolls in the freezer that we could put in the microwave and defrost. They were almost like newly baked because there were a little warm and soft.

Yesterday when I found out that the Finnish goalkeeper Rinne could not play because of a cold I thought Finland would for sure lose the game, because the other goalkeeper Saros played his first game in a world championship for adults. But he did an excellent job!! πŸ˜€ Finland won 3-0 over Slovakia. That was a well needed victory! Two more games, against Belarus and Russia, before the quarterfinal. Four games in a row where the other team has not been able to score against Finland! But the Russian game will for sure be the most difficult.
