My cat thinks this plant, the hibiscus, is a big vegetable that he can eat… Mum tries to stop him from chewing on the leaves. Usually he does it at night when we are sleeping or away from the house. We then find traces of him. There are half-eaten leaves on the hibiscus and the cactus has white fur on it. 🙂
It doesn’t matter how many things we put around the hibiscus. He still finds a way to jump up and eat from the plant. Once I put grounded pepper around the pot. It helped a few days…
Today he was suddenly sitting there when I looked away from the computer. But luckily he didn’t chew on any leaves today. He just sat there for a while. 🙂
We had tortillas for dinner today. I can always eat just two, then I don’t want anymore. It tasted great.
I might make the pätkis muffins in a while. Mum is going to my sister’s house. My brother’s family is coming to pick her up in a few minutes.
The schoolkids in Finland now have summer vacation until the middle of August. There were a lot of handsome people with skirts and dresses and blazers in town when I went to town.
It was pretty warm and sunny. Now there are some more clouds on the sky.
I am baking today. 🙂 First I tried something new that I have never done before. I made muffins with mint chocolate. In Finland we have something called Pätkis, little mint chocolate bars. They come in mini versions too in a little plastic bag and the recipe called for the mini chocolate. Each piece cut in three. So there are small pieces of Pätkis in the muffins. I am sure they melted in the oven, so they are gooey and yummy! 😀 I have to taste one for dessert.
I have a pizza in the oven now. 🙂 It was the first time that I made the dough myself. Usually it’s mum that makes the dough. So I am not sure how it will turn out. I think it’s a little stickier than mum’s dough, but I hope it tastes good, although the grocery store didn’t have the slices of pizza ham that we use to put on on the pizza. So I had to buy some other ham slices. We’ll see how it turns out to be in the end… I put tuna on mum’s side of the pizza and she got pizza spices too. I don’t like that. The dough is on the oven plate and we always “decorate” half the side each, so we get what we want. She usually likes tomato slices too, but I didn’t have that today. So she has to be without them.
I have to quickly wash the dishes after dinner (there are a lot now with so much baking…) In the afternoon I am going to an event. 270 people are signed up for the event, so I have to be there at 4.30 pm when they open the doors. I guess you have to stand in a queue for a long time to pay for the event and if you come pretty late you won’t get any good seat to sit in. So I am going there early… My sister-in-law is also going to the same event. May be I will see her there.
While I am at the event (from 6 to 7 pm) mum will come home from Sweden. She is on the passenger ship right now. She did see my brother on Thursday when she went, and I guess they will see each other today too. He is working until Tuesday, so he has a few more trips with the boat before he has another two weeks off. He is a restaurant manager on the ship. My sister and Alec will go to the harbor to get mumr at 6.30 and then they will come here and wait for my sister-in-law and me to come home as well.
That’s why I made the muffins. I thought they might stay for coffee.
Well, the pizza is almost done, so I better go check it out now. The cat liked to eat some of the tuna that I put on a little plate for him while I decorated the pizza. He is crazy for the pizza ham slices that we use to have, but I don’t think he will like these ham slices.
I am sure the cat will go nuts when mum comes home. He will meow and meow and meow and meow…. 😉
The cat didn’t like the mixer when I made a smoothie. 😉 He came into the kitchen and stared at me with a look that said: “What the hell are you doing?? That noise!”
It was the first time I tried the mixer which we have had for months now… And the first time I made a smoothie. Orange juice and a bag of frozen pieces of fruit. Very simple and quick (which I am sure the cat was happy for…) The taste? Well, it tasted like… fruits? I guess I can make it sometime again, but I am not a big fan of the texture.
It’s cold and windy outside, but luckily no rain today. There was enough rain yesterday. But there are some dark clouds on the sky, so may be there will be rain later.
Rain, rain, rain… Rain all day, pretty much, nonstop. Strong winds… No fun going home from work with the bicycle. 😦 I was wet and cold when I got home.
Oh well, a day off tomorrow. All the shops and libraries and many more places are closed tomorrow. Mum has a day off on Friday, so she is going to Sweden tomorrow morning. She wants the wind to stop at least, otherwise it will be a wavy boat trip across the sea.
No ice hockey today. The Lions traveled to Prague to fight against the Czech Republic tomorrow in the quarter final. It’s going to be a tough game… But I hope the referees are not as lousy as the ones in the previous game, against Russia. A Finnish player got 5 + 20 minutes for kneeing… Well, he didn’t use his knee, he bumped into to other player with his shoulder! Should have gotten 2 minutes, or nothing at all. Instead he was sent to the shower.
Anyway, it’s getting late. Better go to bed now.
A few more hours until the Spanish GP. But I am not getting my hope up too much. Kimi’s had a bad weekend, he’s been grumpy and unsatisfied with all kinds of weird problems. After the qualifying he said the team had kept a set of softer tires in those tire blankets too long and the tires were destroyed, burnt. So those can’t be used in the race. He starts from P7, so he will have a difficult day on the track.
I think I will make a mud cake soon. It’s mother’s day in Finland at least. Mum is at grand mum’s home now. My sister’s family, my sister-in-law and Alec are there too. My brother is working on the passenger ship now and will not be home for over a week.
The sis’s family came unexpectedly to us last night. So they watched the last part of the ice hockey game Slovakia vs. Finland. Lucky we had some cinnamon rolls in the freezer that we could put in the microwave and defrost. They were almost like newly baked because there were a little warm and soft.
Yesterday when I found out that the Finnish goalkeeper Rinne could not play because of a cold I thought Finland would for sure lose the game, because the other goalkeeper Saros played his first game in a world championship for adults. But he did an excellent job!! 😀 Finland won 3-0 over Slovakia. That was a well needed victory! Two more games, against Belarus and Russia, before the quarterfinal. Four games in a row where the other team has not been able to score against Finland! But the Russian game will for sure be the most difficult.
Finland’s games in the ice hockey world championships so far:
* USA – Finland 5-1
* Denmark – Finland 0-3
* Norway – Finland 0-5
* Slovenia – Finland 0-4
9 points so far. Looking good. 🙂 Only one loss and three games where the opposite team has not scored a single games. Finland’s goalkeeper Pekka Rinne is good. 🙂
Next game is against Slovakia on Saturday.
Today it is exactly 20 years since Finland celebrated their first ice hockey world championship (May 7th, 1995)!! 😀 They won 4-1 against Sweden, in Sweden. 😀 After that it took 16 years until the second world championship came in 2011… I hope it won’t last another 16 years before the third gold comes…
The Formula 1 drivers are already in Spain, waiting for the action to start tomorrow. :
I can of course not watch the free practice sessions tomorrow because of the work. But I hope Kimi does well in Barcelona.
Some rain today, some sunshine. Around +10 to +13 degrees during the day I think.
It’s already 11.30 pm. Must go to bed now. Just need to give the cat some food first. 🙂
I found out today that I get to work four weeks! 🙂 Starting tomorrow at 9 am.
It has been pretty sunny and warm today. Just came home from the library where I returned some books.
A couple of hours to the ice hockey game between Norway and Finland. 🙂
